Infiltration Core Compenteny

Rainwater Infiltration

In the past, rainwater was discharged directly into the sewerage system; today, the best practice is for it to be infiltrated on site. The goal is near-natural rainwater management, taking soil and water protection into account, to relieve the burden on the sewer networks and to promote groundwater recharge. This goal can only be achieved through progressive water management practices.

Challenges for rainwater infiltration

Due to the increasing sealing of residential and commercial areas, natural infiltration is almost impossible. On-site infiltration contributes significantly to the recharge of groundwater, relieves the surrounding sewer networks and counteracts flash floods. The precipitation water is temporarily stored by decentralised rainwater management and returned to the natural water cycle. The challenges here are:

Land sealing

Especially in the summer months, heat islands form, causing severe drought and preventing cooling through the evaporation of rainwater.

High loads

In both commercial and public areas, infiltration systems have to withstand high traffic loads.

Increasing rainfall runoff volumes

Heavy rainfall events overload the sewers and drainage systems.

Pollutants in rainwater

Depending on local conditions, rainwater must be treated before infiltration in order to avoid polluting the groundwater. Pollutants from tyre abrasion, oil, petrol and road dirt are reliably filtered by using a filter substrate channel for rainwater treatment.

Soil conditions

The soil must be suitable for continuous and functioning infiltration. The Kf value describes the water permeability of existing soil layers and thus determines the degree of infiltration capacity. In principle, this should be determined before planning, for example by means of a soil expert.

Requirements for the infiltration element

The requirements for infiltration systems differ depending on the area of application. Whether it’s a private construction area or a heavily trafficked industrial yard – our infiltration elements are the perfect solution for sustainable rainwater management.

Safety

Even during heavy rainfall events or high traffic volumes, the operational safety and function of the infiltration system must be guaranteed.

Low land consumption

Due to increasing land sealing, there is often only little space available for an infiltration system. It is therefore necessary that the drainage system takes up a minimum amount of land.

High storage capacity

Large volumes of rainwater must be able to be collected in order to be able to guarantee its function even during heavy rainfall events.

Load capacity depending on the area of application

The system should be adapted to the respective area of application and its load class.

Flexible connection possibilities

Easy installation with connection options in longitudinal and transverse direction with possibility for quick connection.

Infiltration solutions

DRAINFIX TWIN
Infiltration element with DRAINFIX TWIN

The DRAINFIX TWIN infiltration reservoir can be used in a variety of ways depending on soil conditions.

Combination with rainwater treatment system

First, the rainwater is collected with a channel system and cleaned by a filter substrate channel, such as the DRAINFIX CLEAN (with the principle of surface filtration), before the infiltration element is used.

Due to the high retention volume in the preceding filter substrate channel, the volume of the infiltration element can be smaller than that of other systems.

swale infiltration
Swale infiltration

Due to a revitalised soil zone, large amounts of water can be collected and temporarily stored in a green swale and infiltrated. Pollutants are bound in the soil.
