Operation of starch separators
Starch separators are used to separate water from organic starch by means of gravitational forces. Unlike light liquids and organic fats and oils, starch is heavier than water and therefore settles to the bottom of the tank. Separators are used to treat water containing starch produced after peeling potatoes. Water containing dirt (sand, earth) after washing whole potatoes is discharged into the sewerage system via a settling tank only, bypassing the separator.
